Hello

Thank you for choosing CareerGuide and writing to us. I see you are currently a Mechanical Engineer and you want to study a Masters in Australia. May I ask you what degree did you do at undergraduate level? Was that a BE Mechanical Engineering and do you hold any work experience since graduation? Understanding your current position as being a Mechanical Engineer, I would like to suggest you for two courses in Australia.

1. MS Mechanical Engineering
As you already thought about Industrial Engineering, I say you are in right direction. So confidently go for it. Regarding application to Australian universities, please consider the following advice below.

1. Intake: Australia has two intakes. One in July and the other in February. As it is already late March now, I doubt if universities will consider your application for a July 2014 intake. Some universities still accept applications for Masters studies and a few have stopped accepting applications for July 2014. You can also consider joining the Feb 2015 intake. This will give you ample time to do the application, arrange money for study, travel and settle in Australia

2. English language test: As part of the admission and visa, IELTS test is must. You should register for this test with British council in your city. You can also visit www.ielts.org website and register for the test there. You should pass the test with an over all score of 6.5 or 7, where 7 is considered a good score.

3. Universities: Australia has a group 8 universities network, popularly known as G8 universities. The universities in this network are considered as highly reputable and standard with study and research facilities at an international level. The universities in this group are Australian National University (ANU), The University of Queensland, UNSW, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, The University of Western Australia (UWA), Monash university and Adelaide university. I suggest you apply to these 8 universities as your degree is more recognisable and valid at an international level. I dont mean to say other universities in Australia except the group of 8 universities are bad. All are good but these group 8 universities are popular and excellent. Coming to your course availability, I have did some research on these 8 universities that offer your subject.

  • ANU - MS Mechanical Engineering
  • UNSW - MS Mechanical Engineering, ME Mining Engineering
  • University of Queensland - MS Engineering science, Mechanical
  • Sydney- MS Mechanical and Mechatronics
  • Melbourne - ME Mechanical Engineering, MS Engineering Management
  • UWA - Master of Professional Engineering: Mechanical or Mining (You can choose either of this)
  • Monash - Master of Engineering Research in Mining, Master of Mechanical Engineering
  • Adelaide - ME Mining Engineering MS Mechanical Engineering

I hope the above information will be a great help for you. Visit these university websites and see the subject modules that you may study during the 2 year program. Select the university programs you like and send application accordingly. If you require further assistance, I am happy to help.

All the best.
