I am confused about the certification course after MBA-either Market Research or Sourcing and Procurement after 7yrs of automotive exp.

I have 7yrs of Exp in Sales/B.D in the automotive industry. I am now planning to do a certification course. I am interested in both Market research and Sourcing/procurement. I would like to know which one is better in terms of future growth and career development.??

Thats an interesting quetsion and selecting the perfect stream in your management certification. Reading on your inquiry, I see you have an impressive and well built career record. You have some 7 yeras of experience in automotive industry and specifically you were inclined to sales and business development. So with no doubt I can blindly tell you to take market research as the best option. To have a wonderful career in future, the best strategy is to link up your past experience with your future interests.

You were in sales and business development until now and going into market research is more of an extension to business development field. While you were working in sales and BD, you would have gained ample knowledge about the automotive industry itself. So having a sound knowledge about the whole automotive industry is actually a great plus and important strength for a market research. As a market researcher, you are extending your job duties from sales and BD level and it is more professional to that infact. So be glad that as you have very good knowledge on sales and BD, plus indepth knowledge on automotive industry, you are very much suitable to doing a certification in market research.

Companies into market research: I am listing out some reputed companies who are well versed in market research field in India.
Frost and Sullivan (They have a specific branch for automotive market research and I would highly recommend to try for a job with this company). They are international and have offices in USA and some parts of Asia too.

IMRB International

Why not sourcing? The reason why I dont recommend you to sourcing is, this field is more into soft skill and infact it is the human resource department. If you are still interested in sourcing then you can get into this however your industry knowledge will not give you a great hand in this field. If you are a good people's person, knows to handle people and in time, then this skill is alone enough to work for sourcing and industry knowledge is not very much necessary.

If you want to improve your industry knowledge, going into market research is highly recommendable for you. My best wishes to you. Good luck
