India has some of the great medical facilities available around the world. Students from India have occupied an outstanding place in every country. The Medical field is also not far behind, Indian Doctors are world famous, and also Indians have become great doctor around the world. India provides a lot of degrees in the medical field, MBBS, MD, MS, BD etc.  After the 1980s, private medical colleges emerged, but before that many government colleges were established between 1950s-60s. Medical colleges are looked after by the Medical Council of India. This council is responsible for recognizing various medical colleges. Currently, there are 273 recognized medical colleges in India. Basic eligibility to take admission in an under graduation course is 10+2. Various colleges have different entrance exams for their particular universities. So here are some of the top Medical Colleges of India:

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi:

Established in 1956, this college is considered to be the best college for MBBS in India. They conduct their own AIIMS exams, apart for all India exams. This exam is taken to get admission in various AIIMS colleges, spread across India. It is considered as one of the toughest exams, all over the world. Students are also provided with scholarships for admission in AIIMS. Here the numbers of seats are only 72. Application forms are opened in the month of April & May.

Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore:

 This is a century old Christian Medical Education Centre. This is the second best college in India for MBBS. It was founded by Ida S. Scudder. The numbers of seats available are only 60 here. Out of those 60 seats, 25 are reserved for women. The College conducts its own exam, which happens in the month of May. This is one the largest medical centers in India.  They accept NEET scores but after that, you have to give an aptitude test.

JIPMER: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research

It is located in Pondicherry (formally Puducherry). This was basically established by French Government in the year 1823. It was earlier École de Médicine de Pondichérry, later it was changed to Dhanvantari Medical College during transfer of Pondicherry to India. This college also conducts its own entrance exam & takes admission on the basis of merit list.

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune:

Affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health and Sciences, it was established in May 1948. This one of the several colleges of Armed Forces. Also recognized by Medical Council of India, this college is ranked as the third best college for MBBS in India. This is managed by the Indian Armed Forces. They accept NEET scores but they also have their own entrance exam, which is conducted across India in 28 centers. The numbers of seats are 130, but before admission, they have to go through an interview also.

 

 

 

 Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi:

Named after the great Indian freedom fighter, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, this is considered in the top most colleges in India. This college is affiliated with Delhi University. They too have their own entrance exam, which differs according to the course & they also, have the capacity for 200 students.

Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), Delhi:

Established in1914, earlier this college was a girls college, it only to girls. But after 1970 rules were changed & they started tang male students also. This college is affiliated to Delhi University. Lady Hardinge was the wife of then Viceroy Charles Hardinge. She initiated this institution because of lack opportunities for women in the medical field. They have two courses available, nursing & the MBBS undergraduate course. They also have a separate exam for both of them. For MBBS they have DUMET.

Grant Medical College, Mumbai:

This is considered to be in top 10 colleges when it comes to the medical field. Although this is state medical college, a student from all over India come & study here. Admission is through MT-CET conducted. They conduct the exam in the month of May.

Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal:

This is a private college, established in the year 1953. This college is actually the 1st private college for Medical. This is an internationally recognized college. Students from around the world come here to study. At present, students from around 44 countries are either studying here or have graduated from here. They do accept NEET scores, but most of the seats are reserved for State Quota students.
