Interesting career option. It is a good feeling when someone highly qualified wishes to guide students in their career.

To be a Career guide, mainly you need to have complete details about a subject matter and its scope in terms of jobs or further studies. So first you need to begin with picking up information on all possible careers and the means to study them. In terms of the career, you need to that after which particular stream ( Science, Commerce or ARTS) or after Diploma program etc.

After that, you need to see whether there is a possibility of another route to the same career, say through any other stream or there are diploma or certificate programs.

Career counseling can be done in terms of just guiding the person based on the query which is generally specific. Just like the way, you have inquired or in most of the cases, students are confused. There a proper guidance is required.

Even on this forum, when a student is confused and asks us questions like, " What after 10th or 12th. generally instead of guiding the person in general, it is better to help them select on the basis of what their strengths are in terms of their Aptitude.
So it would be good if you could also have knowledge about Career tests like Aptitude tests. It is an easy road map for guiding students based on their real self.

Another point here is that, you don't need to have knowledge of Psychology to be a Career guide. As a career consultant, it is important that you have lots of patience and empathetic skills, since many a times you need to stop a student from choosing a career as per their Aptitude tests results. The key here is having complete knowledge about the careers and why a particular aptitude is required.

Wish you all the very best............
