Dear Ujjwal,
To take a gap year or not is a strictly personal decision.
It would always be better to enroll yourself in some local engineering college or other graduate course and then prepare for IIT, as the former would act as a back up plan.
If you are not sure about the amount of hard work you can put in, dont take a gap year.
The probability of loosing self confidence is high if your cant avail your gap year to your benefit, so think wise before taking a gap year.
Now talking about crash course.
Crash course will give you an exposure to the exam pattern, and the skills they need in a short period of time.
You will be able to solve only limited number of problems from different levels of difficulty in this limited period.
The crash course would be basically 6 hours a day for a months period.
This will not deliver higher result unless you solve some questions on your own on a daily basis.
Along with the crash course you need to devote 3-4 hours.
Now you need to take a call after thinking wisely and realistically.
This is just a guideline for you to act on.
Hope this helps

Hi there,
Interesting career choice. But definitely wasting a year is not advisable, since there can be a lot of changes during that time.
As such there are coaching classes that conduct test to check ones eligibility post class 8th. You could still avail that test. But incase if you are confident, then I would suggest you join coaching and solve as many sample papers possible.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck..
Dear Aspirant,
Taking a year gap just for studying for IIT Entrance is not recommended. You should do the coaching for IIT simultaneously along with 12th PCM.
If you are confident that you will be able to clear the JEE for IITs, then you should definitely join a coaching class where you will get the appropriate guidance, help. practice and which will in turn build your confidence level. Even if you do not make it to the Top score in JEE, you will definitely get admission in a good reputed ranked college elsewhere.
Remember that aim to be a good engineer and think of utilising your aptitude for it irrespective of the college.
Best wishes
