But the only issue is that I am unable to understand that after so many years of experience, why are you looking out for a certification.

Anyways to be successful as a Technical writer apart from your certificates, you need other criteria like:
  • Writing Skills: The main important point here is to convey the ideas and skills to people, so writing is an important skill for this profession
  • Technical Skills: Since writing would not just involve a paper and pen, it needs technical support. The person must be well equipped with technical knowledge like hardware and software as well as the technical specifications of the industry they are working with. Also knowledge relating to MS Word, frame maker, Mad cap flare and so on...
  • Interviewing and listening skills: Very important is this skill. What you hear and what you write must be in sync with each other. Asking specific sets of questions and being able to interpret them not according to what you thought, but what the person tries to convey is important.
  • Testing: Since the technical writer is the proof of the product, they must be able to sustain and give the useability of the product. So before making a note, they must be a part of the testing team.
I am sure, you might be aware of the above mentioned points, but one needs to brush through these important aspects to sustain in any profession.
