With a mechanical engineering background, pursuing an MSc in Physics is reasonable, and fields like Nanoscience and Nanotechnology are a strong choice because they blend materials, mechanics, and applied physics. You are generally eligible for CSIR UGC NET JRF and Lectureship if you complete an MSc in Physics or a related physics-heavy program, so choosing a specialization closely aligned with core physics will keep all options open.
