Hello there

Thank you for approaching counsellors at Mera career guide. I appreciate your interest in becoming a professor and hats off for that as not many students aim for a teaching career. A professor career carries with it high responsibility for the society and i am glad you chose this. before we go into the topic, let me introduce myself. i am Gomathi and i am into this counselling industry for over 23 years now. I am also the Managing director of GV Counselling group that is established in south Bangalore and also recently moved into chennai. I specialise in guidance and counselling for career and education. So now lets move into your query.

First of all to become a professor in any subject a PhD degree is mandatory all over the world. Any masters qualification can give you a lecturer job but it is only a phd degree will give you a professor job. Lots of students think they can become a professor with Bachelors or Masters but it is not so. they can only become a lecturer, associate lecturer or assistant lecturer with a non-phd degree and only a phd degree can give a professor role. I will brief here on how to do a phd here. In India it is mandatory to follow the +10+2+3 or +10+2+4 pattern of education, to be eligible to apply for a PhD.
In detail,
  • Pass 10th class with a first class as minimum
  • Pass 12th class with a min first class
  • Pass a three year bachelor degree like BA BSc with a min first class or pass a four year Bachelor degree like BENG BTech with a minimum first class. As you wanted to be an electronics professor, you can either study BSc Electronics or BE or BTech Electronics and instrumentation engineering.
  • Completing Bachelors you can either directly apply for a phD or also apply for a Masters and then do a phd. Most students prefer doing a masters to get in depth knowledge before commencing PhD studies. Apart from 10, 12, Bachelors and Masters degree scores now you are also required to pay special attention to certain entrance tests for a PhD.
  • To expect for an admission at any of the IIT institutions, you need a GATE score which is mandatory. A high rank in GATE score is highly essential for PhD admission at IIT's. To expect an admission outside IIT institutions you require a mandatory UGC NET exam score. If you are seeking scholarship or monthly stipend you also need to write UGC JRF exam. With these scores you can apply for a phd

Completing a PhD you can be directly recruited as an assistant professor and after 2-3 years you will be promoted to a professor based on experience and good performance.

Hello,

To become a lecturer one must have to complete his/her master's degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

The number of candidates to become a lecturer is getting increased day by day.

The government has established NTA (National Testing Agency) to select the deserving candidates in their respective career fields.

The National Testing Agency also conducts the UGC NET Exam which is meant to check the eligibility of aspirants for lectureship.

So, you should also apply for UGC NET Exam to pursue your career as a lecturer or professor.
