Meteorology is the science of the atmosphere. Meteorology science education at the college and university level has grown tremendously in recent years. A student keen of becoming a professor of meteorology needs to have PhD in meteorology or atmospheric science
. To begin with one can opt for an undergraduate degree i.e BSc or B Tech soon after completion of his/her class 12 with science subjects. After completion of graduation one can seek admission in a postgraduate programme in meteorology or atmospheric science followed by PhD. Apart from educational qualification one needs to have an academic bent of mind, aptitude for teaching and research , long concentration span, keen observation, analytical thinking, precision , excellent verbal and written communication skills, good with figures and computers, a logical approach to problem solving, self reliant and responsible, an inquiring mind. The various universities offering courses in meteorology are Cochin University of Science and Technology , Andhra University , IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology , Pune , MS university of Baroda & Punjabi University Patiala
