Hello

Thank you very much for approaching counsellors at CareerGuide.com and writing to us. I would like to introduce myself before I go into the topic. I am Gomathi and I am the Managing director of GV Consulting group and i am into this counselling industry for over 23 years now. I handle mainly education and career counselling for students and all people.

So lets go into your question now. To become a professor in any field, you need a PhD degree. A professor is a Doctorate who works at universities and colleges for teaching and research. In India first of all there is a procedure to do a PhD and i will brief it here.

Complete 10th standard and obtain minimum first class pass (this is regarded as +10)

  • Complete 12th standard and obtain minimum first class pass (this is regarded as +12)
  • Complete a BA/ BSc or BE/ BTEch degree and obtain a minimum first class pass. (this is regarded as +3 or +4 based on the number of years you will be studying your degree)Please understand it is required to follow this +10+2+3 or +10+2+4 pattern as this is the first eligibility criteria for applying for a PhD degree. As you are willing to be a professor in Paint technology, it is required you study a related degree like either BTech Paint technology or Btech chemical engineering and technology and specialize in paint technology. Institute of chemical technology (ICT - www.ictmumbai.edu.in/
) is regarded as one of the top institutes along with IIT institutes in India and you may consider studying here for your bachelors degree.
  • Now with a BTech degree itself you can apply for a PhD. In case you are planning to do PhD in IIT institutions you need GATE exam score and a UGC-NET score for admission. If you also require monthly stipend during your phd, you need UGC-JRF score as well. In case you wanted to do PhD else where other than IIT, you require only UGC-NET & UGC-JRF scores.
  • You can also obtain a ME/MTech after a BE/ BTech degree. Gaining a two year masters degree will also add advantage with your application and therefore you can consider studying MTech Paint tech or MTech Chemical engineering with paint technology. Completing a MTech degree, you can apply for a PhD

  • Now completing a PhD you can apply to colleges and universities to work as an Assistant professor directly. After 2-3 years you will be promoted as a Professor based on your performance.

    Good luck.

    Hi There,

    This is quite interesting.

You have not only mentioned being a professor, but which field also has been mentioned.

The answer to your question lies in the question itself.

A professor is someone who needs to have complete answer of the subject he teaches.
In you case, you need to have all information regarding Paint technology, right from quality to products to manufacturing and many other factors that contribute towards Paint technology.

So in that case, you need to pursue PCM in 12th. After that appear for various Engineering entrance exam tests and pursue either B.Tech or B.E engineering.
After that pursue a master degree, which is the eligibility for joining any college as an Associate professor.
Once you join a college, you would then have to clear the NET / SET entrance eligibility.

Since no one wishes to continue as an Associate professor and wishes to be a full fledged professor in their respective field, you would have to go ahead and pursue a P.Hd program.
Anyways note that it a compulsion, that you need a PhD degree, but you would have to be research oriented and would have to publish research paper under your name.
So when research needs to be done, why not get a .P. Hd degree too.

    Hope this answers your query.

    Wish you good luck
