To become a professor in plastic technology engineering one needs to have MTech in Polymer programmepreferably followed by research degree. MTech polymer programme or equivalent are offered to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering/ Chemical Technology/ Polymer Science/ Engineering/ Tech/Plastic Tech or an equivalent examination or Master's degree within technical chemistry/ applied chemistry/ industrial chemistry or equivalent.



Scientific bent of mind, mechanical aptitude, enquiring approach and highly developed power of observation. Advanced courses demand a high degree of academic ability, creative imagination ( for research and development ) , an analytical mind, resourcefulness, curiosity , interest in problem solving and technological development are useful traits to excel as plastic technologist. Plastic engineers take apart raw materials such as cold tar, coal , petroleum, wood , natural gas and salt and then rearrange their molecules to make synthetic materials. The industry employs not only plastic engineers, but also rubber technologists, polymer scientists, plastic processing technologists, plastic testing and conversion technologists , plastic mould technologists and designers. There are opportunities in teaching, pure research and development, consultancy , design , technical services and marketing.
