Very very interesting career option.
For being a Research scientist, one needs to finish graduation and then a post graduation in the field and follow it up with a P.Hd.
Please note, the Research aspect does not stop after you obtain a P.Hd, but it is an on going process, whereby you would continue with your research.
Since you have not mentioned your qualification at the moment. I am speaking in general in relation to space science and research.
You could pursue 12th with PCM. Thereby opt for either an engineering degree after clearing the entrance exam, or you could opt for a B.,Sc in Physics or Math and follow it up with a M.Sc or M.Tech and then join ISRO or DRDO and pursue the P.HD course.
