To join the Indian Air Force as a Fighter pilot there is no need to do Aeronautical engineering. There are basically two ways to join the Air Force and then become a fighter pilot. The first is through the National Defence Academy after the 12th class and the second is to join the Air Force Academy after Graduation. If you join the National Defence Academy , you will do a 3 year course there and then be sent to the Air Force Academy for 1 year of training. At the end of this you will join the Indian Air Force as a commissioned officer. It is during the training at the Air force Academy where you would be assessed about your flying skills and based on these you would either join the fighter stream or the transport or helicopter stream.
