I was wondering if it was possible for a teenager to get a book published?

I am 13 years old and have a written manuscript of a book I have completed within the last year. I am interested in publication. Any suggestions?

Dear Kayla,

I am so glad to know that you have deep interest in writing and at this young age you have already finished with your first book. Kudos to you.

Get your manuscript proof read by your elders and your english teacher. Ask them to help you to reach to some local publisher or some magazine. That would help you.

All the Best

Hey there......

Sounds pretty interesting.

You have already written a book, which means your command over the language and imagination with creativity is excellent.

In this case, you have two options.

  1. Contact a Publisher and get the book printed under a sudo name
  2. Self Publishing.

Mostly since it is your own book, you should opt for self publication.
Here best would be to contact a publishing house directly.

You would get a lists of self publications offices on the internet.

Contact one which is nearest to your residence and also the one that fits your budget.

They also provide services related to reading and proof reading the manuscript, as well as promoting the book.

Another option you could think of is publishing your book with the help of the school you are currently studying at.

If the school promotes your books, you only will have to pay the costs of publication, which generally is given to you at a discount, as the schools are associated with different publishing houses.

Please do make a conscious effort to later pursue BMM especially majoring in Journalism.

It will be of a great help for you in the future.
Hope this answers your query.
Wish you good luck....

Dear Aspirant,

What an awesome achievement!

A teenager definitely can get a book published. It is a prodigy case!

I would suggest that you should try to approach some established writer with your manuscript and have his views to find out whether your work is suitable to get published. Then approach a publisher with an acknowledgement from authors.

You may also go for eBook which can be self published and does not incur any major costs. Today eBooks are most read by teens and others.

Best wishes,

Dr. Anand Wadadekar
