Dear aspirant

Civil Engineer
Thank you for approaching counsellors at CareerGuide.com. I can understand that you are curious in joining BE after a Diploma and yes you can definitely join. So be happy and relaxed about it. May i know in what subject you have done your Diploma and in what subject you want to do your BE? For example if you have completed a diploma in mechanical then you are eligible to do a BE in mechanical engineering, if you do a diploma in civil then you are similarly eligible for a BE Civil. However if you want to change course then it can also be possible, for example if you have studied Diploma in computer science and want to do a BENG/ BTech Information technology, you should have taken at least one subject in IT as part of your diploma program. Like that if you complete a diploma in civil and want to do a BTech Architecture then this is also possible. So you should carefully understand what subject you want to do at BE level and if it creates a link to your already studied Diploma too.

As you desire for studying a BE, then you can take admission in colleges for a BE directly. Also some colleges offer you a flexible entry known as lateral entry system. This lateral entry means you can join the BE/ BTech degree directly in their second year. You dont have to study this BE right from first year as others do and there fore you can complete this BE/ BTech within three years itself. Completing the degree you will be treated as a fresher similar to that of normal BENG/ BTECH graduates for jobs.

Finding a BE/ BTech college that accepts students through lateral entry system is very important. You should also be prepared to write some preparatory competitive exams like the AIEEE or IIT JEE. AIEEE is All India engineering entrance exam and if you take the exam and qualify with a good percentage and rank you can be placed at very good and reputable government colleges. If you take the IIT JEE exam and qualify with a very good rank then you have high chances of getting placed in IIT. Alternatively if you want to study at private colleges then you should appear for their individual entrance test. For example as BITS Pilani conducts BITSEEE and Vellore institute of technology conducts VITEEE, you should find the college where you want to study and also find if they run a seperate entrance test. Best wishes.
