Dear Friend

A food technologist never chase the job rather provide the jobs for others so please develop the visionary approach towards the technology and it implementation in real life. Before discussing the tertiary level of talk that is related to job and investment you should focus on the preparative stage and get the idea how to attempt the technology in food sector.

After doing graduation, masters either with sciences or technology If I ask the question now please tell me where i will go or how i will find the job or how i will earn the bread and butter then it is suspicious and doubtful for any credential. Please try to avoid such premature discussion and engage yourself at threshold level of study, do mind it your level of preparation, understanding, interest, intensity if progress will raise the bar of threshold. Ultimately you will be realizing the I am the person of such and such stream rather asking others for your query hey tell me who am I ? what am I? where should I go? I do agree that average students raise such questions as they have not tried the subject with honesty or did not get it properly due to certain circumstances that is why people are gallivanting here and there without any job.

Why I am discussing these points? To explain you the root cause of any success and failure irrespective of any stream whether you talk about food technology or any other technology. In this current scenario mainly in India students are desperate to chase the right and wrong subject and comment that this subject has broader scope than this vis-a-vis which is completely a baseless talk. Each subject has equal role in our life that is why a subject is evolved and being sustained by the collaborators like us. Think in different direction and understand that you are to define and re-define a subject a subject can not help you for your career this is truth for entire academic world.

Though I guess you are the best person for food technology (never say food technology is best for you) so you are recommended for the best education from the best college where admission criteria must be rigorous with the limited seats and best infrastructure. At the same time if you think I have done this then go for the entrepreneurship, many helping hands are available for you for the financial support explore minsitry of food and beverage, DBT, DST, CSIR etc only you have to show case your potential through publication, patents etc in your account.

Dear friend, you have asked a very practical question. Here you have not mentioned your academic qualifications and what you are doing at present. Technically speaking a food technologist is person holding a degree (bachelor) in Food Science and technology. The food technologist develop and improve existing food products and set standards for improving the texture, flavor, aroma, quality of a food product. The food technologist uses the microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry and engineering techniques to study the food deterioration.

A food technologist may perform the following task (from these tasks mentioned you may be able to find out what type of own venture you can start and what types of opportunities could be available for a food technologist)

1. Ensure safe and hygienic conditions are maintained during processing, storage and marketing of a food product

2. Check raw ingredients of processed foods for nutritional value, safety and quality,

3. Undertake basic and applied research into aspects of food processing, food preservation, food quality, food deterioration, food storage, packaging and delivery

4. check foods for color texture, and taste to ensure products meets government rules and regulations

5. Develop and ensure food standards

6. Demonstrate food products to clients

7. Develop new products and device the techniques needed to produce these foods and maintain their quality during processing and storage

8. Supervise maintenance and cleaning of machinery used during food processing and packaging to prevent any sort of contamination

9. Compare products with those of other brands and participate in surveys that provide information to management about products that are already in the market

10. Develop quality control procedures for manufacture of products in plants or factories

11. Analyze the results and experimental data (if applied)

12. Supervise and coordinate the work of technicians.

13. Regular training programs for the technicians to upgrade their skills.

Food Technologists

For a food technologist, there are lot many opportunities. The food technologist can open his or her outlet for processed food. The outlet depends upon the money invested. Being a food technologist, you can understand the nerve of the people and their demand. Accordingly you can prepare the food products and market them. Your own venture could be North Indian, South Indian, central Indian, Chinese or Oriental type of outlet.

With all my best wishes

Good Luck..
