As civil engineer one can start private practice as a consultant or work with muncipilaties , government construction , regulatory agencies, transportation authorities, architects or urban planners. Others can seek employment in construction or manufacturing companies. As civil engineer one can also work for companies like ONGC, railways and various departments of state and central government. Employment opportunities exist in the government sector including the railways, depoartment of irrigation, public works, roads, transport, airports, muncipal corporations , telecommunication departments etc. Civil engineer can also work as commissioned officer in the defense services, research organizations and laboratories. Those who are down to earth people may join various NGOs working in water shade management and other areas. Civil engineers graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching. They can also join Indian Engineering Services. Some of the top employers of civil engineers include national fertilizers ltd, bharatelectrical ltd, cement corporation of India, bharatsanchar nigam ltd,. MMTC ltd,. Hindustan zinc limited, Hindustan paper Corp ltd, Bharat earth movers ltd, NTPC, Bharat Heavy Electrical ltd & Power grid corporation of India
