As an Architecture graduate there is a good probability that you will get a decent job in your core profession. In some cases people may opt to choose a different career. It's quite interesting to see how people make progress in this career. There are different possibilities where you will be after five years. We will analyze them one by one.

1. If you have joined the private sector after your graduation, you will be at somewhat senior level, or probably at middle management. That will depend on your performance, skills and expertise. You would have got a good salary increase and would be exploring new avenues.


2. If you have joined government sector after your graduation, your promotion and growth will be mostly fixed. You would get promotions at fixed points of time. The increase in salary will also be mostly fixed, doesn't vary according to the performance. Talking about the role, you will have more of administerial roles.

3. If you went for a master degree or Ph.D. during these five years, you can either - join the corporate world at higher position, join government sector at higher position, go on to the research and academics. More avenues will be open for you. But you will be in the core Architect field.

4. If you did your MBA during these five years, you can get a jump in your career progression and get higher position. After doing MBA, you will not be restricted to Architectural field. In fact you can go in to almost any industry based on your learning and skills developed during MBA.

Architects are the real creators of amazing building and structures. Skyscrapers in metro cities would not have been possible without them. While capitalism furthers the growth and prosperity of human race, tall buildings with beautiful designs and glory show the grandeur. The rebuilding of 'Twin Towers' collapsed in 9/11 incident and other towers and structures hows the real dint of human talent and excellence, creativity and vision.


Required Personal / Professional Skills:
A person requires sound Interpersonal & Communications skills and immense physical stamina to get into the profession of architecture. He is expected to work on desk as well on construction site. Excellent memory and sound concentration level, flexibility, patience, team spirit, responsibility, and accountability,atc are some common personal traits which are essential for professional success in architecture and design. But it is the right credentials in academics which matters the most in architecture.


Job Prospects:
Architects can work with construction companies wherein they are asked to serve as a designer. Initially, an architect is expected to understand specific requirements of clients and strike aright balance between aesthetics and practicality. Additionally, an architect with skills can help clients by his ideas in terms of balancing the requirements of appearance, financial budget and time frame. Some architects even work independently and earn their livelihood through consultancy fees which entirely depends upon the skills and profile as well as work experience.



Most of the jobs in architecture come up in government organizations such as Public Works Department, the Archaeological Department, Ministry of Defense, ANtional Building Organization, Town and Country Planning Organization, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Departments of Railways, Post and Telegraphs, Public Sector Undertakings, Housing and Urban Development Corporations, NationalBuilding Construction Corporation Ltd, etc. While some other organizations or bodies like State Departments, Housing Boards, Lcal Bodies for Consruction Work, Builders, Architecture Firms, Consultants, etc also hire architects.


Job Roles:
Architects can work on various job roles including:
1. Architect
2. Architecture Designer
3. Architecture Egineer


Pay Packet:
Starting salary of an architect can be range of Rs. 20K - 30K. The growth is registered after 2 + years. Candidates with work experienceof more than 5 years can get salary in the range of Rs. 50K - 60K. The demand is expected to increase in next couple of decades as India is going to expand FDI in Real Estate and it will attract huge money from foreign companies.
