Hello

Thank you very much for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. I am glad you have landed up on the right platform to seek counsellors help at Mera career guide. I am happy to help you with your query today. From your question, I understand you want to shift your career into fashion designing. Have you studied fashion designing at a degree level? Or have you did any Diploma in Fashion designing before? Or is it only a pure interest in fashion designing that plunges on you to start a career in fashion designing? Lots of people get attracted to this industry just because of the glamour attached to it. Diverting your career just because of some attraction isnt a good thing. You should understand if you can manage the time and costs it may incur to be successful in this industry. Please clarify yourself on these questions and only then you could help yourself better. I am not aware of what you are doing presently but if you still aspire to try fashion designing, please feel free to try.

To have a fashion designing career first of all a basic qualification related to it is highly essential. For this you should consider studying a Diploma level at least. You may also try joining a BSc Fashion designing course through lateral entry option. You will be directly starting in your BSc second year and could complete the degree in just two years. If you cannot offer time to go to college and study these courses, you can try doing some part time certification courses that many institutes around India offer. NIFT, Lisa school of design offers many short courses that are widely recognised. You may try learning some of these courses.

Alternatively, try looking at famous designers works, their accessories used, their colors used and see what causes the attraction behind their designing. Collect these attributes behind their work and create your own designs. You may try creating a sari design or lehenga design and sell it to local designer clothing shops. Also try putting up a store on ebay and sell your designs. You can also create a facebook page and upload your designs. You will soon earn recognition if you follow the above steps. But it might take at least two years to gain such recognition. You may consider starting your career as a fashion designer from that point and I would you not to quit your career right now and move into fashion designing. You won't be struggling on monetary basis at least. Start fashion designing as a part time role as of now, and once you get recognition, take the transition.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi,

Greeting's for the day!!!

Fashion design is the applied art devoted to the designing of clothing and lifestyle accessories. This art if influenced by cultural and social attitudes and has evolved over time and place. Fashion designing has come a long way from the designer clothes worn by the royalty of the ancient world to the haute couture products of the present.

Fashion designing is one of the most lucrative, appealing, glamorous, and exciting career options in today's world. If you have a penchant for creativity, style and originality, a career in fashion designing is the one tailor made for you. On one hand, the fashion industry satisfies both the creative fancies and the materialistic needs of the people. On the other hand, it promises glamour, fame, success, and a high pay package to the talented people.

However, it is also a demanding career, as fashion designers need to combine their creativity with managerial skills to sustain in this industry. Thus, if you can create magic with colours, shapes, and designs, then just obtain a professional course to begin a successful carrer in the alluring world of fashion designing.

Prospects for fashion design graduates are pretty good thanks to the huge and still growing demand for "Designer Wear" and the equally outsized quantity of exports.

After successful completion of the course, you can remain self employed. Alternatively, several export houses, garment store chains, textile mills, leather companies, boutiques, fashion show organizers, jewellery houses and media houses recruit professionals interested in a career in fashion designing.

Job Roles:
As a professional fashion designer, you can work in areas like designer wear production, fashion marketing, planning and concept management. Then there is fashion media, design production management, fashion accessory design, quality control and promotion of brands.

You ca also work as a designated costume designer, fashion consultant, personal stylist, technical designer, graphic designer, production pattern maker or a fashion coordinator.

Other roles include: apparel production manager, fabric buyer, fabric quality control manager, showroom sales representative, illustrator, cutting assistant and outside sales representative. Those interested in a career in fashion designing can also become entrepreurs and form their own companies.
