I'm dislike my current job and after 8 yrs of exp looking for a career change. Am I doing right or wrong?

Hi, I'm a 30 year old Engineering Graduate. Since beginning I've been a confused person. I did not know what I want to become. I passed 12th with 67% in 2001 and then completed diploma in electronics engineering with 74% in 2004 as I didn't clear entrance for B.Tech though I got a good rank in B.Sc Comp. Science but disliked as it was a simple graduate degree. After diploma I got a job in a software company as IT Support engineer and I completed Bachelor in Engineering with 60% in 2008. I didn't like the IT job due to repetitive task, multi-tasking, follow a set of rules/instructions, paperwork and rigid shift timings so I looked for Govt jobs but didn't get success. Eventually I again continued in IT sector. Now I'm married and soon become a father, I still hate my job and feel frustrated. I'm earning a handsome salary and can't quit easily. I don't know where I'll find a career satisfaction. I had done multiple career path tests and career suggestions I'm getting through are quite opposite my education background. My interest profile is IASREC. My personality type is INFP. I like to do a job where I have flexible shift, help people, work that involves investigation, no time boundaries, no repetitive tasks and good earnings.

Interesting.

My question to you is that despite doing psychometric tests why did you choose something different from what was suggested.
And if you had chosen, then you would have noticed the dislike while studying, why did you continue.

Now, as you have mentioned an important factor, you are going to be a Father, that means additional responsibility. Now your main outlook should be the child and not just your own self.
Though at the age of 30, just being married, I could have asked you to begin afresh, but now with an additional responsibility, life and market is getting tougher and tougher.
These days itself education expenses are sky high, so at this stage leaving a secured job, would definitely be not advisable.

But never the less, if you are not happy with your current job which is IT then does not make any sense continuing also.
But instead of leaving the job, why dont you look out for courses related to your field itself. Since you are on a search for something which is not monotonous, why dont you do a course into MCA, which is into computer Application.
Whereby you are mainly into software developing and testing as well as trouble shooting and networking.
The best part is that the course MCA is available through Distance learning too. So you dont have to leave your job too.

The other option booming these days is Digital Marketing. Since you are into a similar field you may have knowledge about this field also.
Digital marketing is mainly into helping new small entrepreneurs into setting up their own business with the help of digital marketing.
It involves the use of websites and other associated marketing tools to promote business online.

Majorly the steps involved includes:
  1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Develop and promote through the use of search engines and keywords the business and its agenda
  2. Search Engine Marketing ( SEM): Just creating keywords will not help, one needs to market it to customers so that they are aware of existing facilities
  3. Social Media Marketing: Involves actively spreading the news online on social networking sites like facebook, twitter etc
  4. E Marketing: Sending mails and promoting the business
  5. Mobile marketing: Promoting the site through messages on mobiles.

There are courses available in the market which stresses on Digital marketing. Again it is a part time course. After completing the course, you can start your business on your own, so it would involve your own time and work flexibility.
And since it is booming these days, it would be a good start for you with your technical knowledge.

Apart from this it would be good if you could get yourself certified with many certificates available in the market involving
Choose wisely and then take a decision, since you have another important aspect in life.

Wish you good luck...........

Dear Aspirant,

Considering your growing family responsibilities, it would not be wise to leave job or change career. Changing careers would mean that you will need to learn new things and there fore you will have to devote great time in learning them. Though MCA is a good option, I would recommend something else.

Why dont you think for Certification in Project Management like PMP. I am sure you were a part of projects in the IT company. This will help in getting you eligible for appearing for PMP certification.
PMP certification will help you rise to the managerial level and will also increase your earnings and will give you the scope of change of work

Best wishes,
