Hello

It is nice to see your interest towards nutrition subject all of a sudden. You are absolutely eligible to pursue a PG Diploma in Nutrition course after a BA English literature degree as you have been in a science discipline at your HSC school level. Most of the private colleges gives you this flexibility to study PG Diploma in nutrition irrelevant of your bachelors background. However if you want to study at a government approved college and also need to obtain a license as a food science nutrition and dietics practitioner then most of the license bodies would demand for a science subject at school level, BSc food nutrition oriented degree at a bachelors level, MSc degree in the same area and also a couple of years as work experience. So to obtain a license as a practitioner you may need to consider studying a bachelors degree in Food science nutrition.

Getting a license is actually prestigious and it is treated as a food science expert/ professional. Therefore if you also wish to be a licensed practitioner then you may have to think of a BSc in this subject. But if you are studying it for your self interest and personal satisfaction then you can study a PG Diploma in food nutrition. And to highlight men are also flocked highly into this field. Men does work for hospitals and private labs and companies after completing this course.

As advised by one of our career experts Dr Salman Abid here, I would like to tell you that consider studying a BSc and at his recommended college. Contact the college to know about the admission procedures and I can very well tell you that almost 30% of students in India often do a second bachelors degree. So please do not think that oh, should i study a Bachelors degree again. If you have to work as a license practitioner then this is the only option in hand. If you hold license you can be employed in UNICEF, United Nations, hospitals and even in World health organisation.

Finally think well if you want to be a nutritionist expert/ professional in career. If you want to be an expert, then you need license, to have license, then you need to study a BSc. If you dont want to be an expert then you do a PG Diploma in nutrition and work in only labs and private companies. Colleges offering PG Diploma in nutrition around Mumbai are SVT College of home science and Mumbai university within Mumbai. You can also pursue at CFTRI as it is a central government approved institute.

Hope this helps. My best wishes to you. Good luck.
