Hi Manjeet,

The eligibility criteria for joining the Indian police Services is that an aspirant should be a minimum graduate from a recognized university or a college in India. He/She should be 21years to 30 yrs of age at the time of appearing in the UPSC held Civil Services Examination.

Height - Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) - 160 cm

Eye sight - 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The correction is by lenses.

If all the above fits you,you are eligible for IPS exam.


Preparation Tips:

Civil Service Aptitude Test from 2011 - Then the concept of Prelims - optional and General Studies will come to an end.

-> Planning: The examination procedure is lengthy and covers complete 1 year.

->NCERT books from class 6th to class 12th of History, Geography and Civics are very important. You should go through them properly.

->Reading newspaper helps to develop your thinking in the desired manner.

-> Monthly news magazines and magazines like Competition Refreshers, Times , Pratiyogita Darpan are very y useful.

-> Year Book like Manorama , Upkar Publication.

-> Hear proper news daily.

-> In long run, watching channels like Discovery, History Channels helps you a lot.

->Choose Scoring Subject.

->Subjects like History, Public Administration, Political Science, geography are the hits in Civil Services Preliminary Examination. Besides, regular subjects, subjects like Hindi Literature are very good for mains.

->Develop your hobbies.

->The Best time to start IAS preparation is from 1st year of graduation.

->Choosing right combination of subjects is must for success.

->Hardwork, patience and faith are the keys of success for IAS exams.
