Insight into Forensics and Cyber Forensics for a PCM student.

I'm a class 11 PCM/Computer Science student. I'd like to know more about Forensics and Cyber Forensics and about the colleges that offer degrees in these respective fields. What is the eligibility to get into such colleges? Are there some specific entrance exams? What would be recommended?- Under graduation in India or abroad? If Abroad, what are the scholarship and entrance tests one should prepare for, and the eligibility?!

Hi Varshini,

Interesting question and career choice and honestly the need of the hour.
Looking at the crime rates, we do need a good forensic guy.

But I am sure more than me answering this question for you, you know the answer yourself.

To be a forensic expert, one needs the background of Science and Psychology in combination.

Earlier and these days too, there re certificates or diploma courses available for the same.

But because of the demand for crime investigation, there are degree courses available for the same.
The basic requirement for the same is a 12th Science student with knowledge of Biology and Physics.
Though Psychology is covered during the degree itself.

As far as Cyber forensics is concerned, it can be a part of the forensic study or you could opt for a certificate course in Cyber forensics.
As forensic involves or encompasses crime at all stages, cyber is a part of the entire study.
So why waste time in a diploma or certificate when a degree is available in general. And mostly if you check the course eligibility, they stress more on working professional or crime investigators.
Forensic Scientists
As far as studying in India or abroad, it is a personal choice. Though the crime detection and investigative technique remains the same. The only point apart from resources, would be to decide where would you like to work in the long run. Since internship is a major force behind such courses.

Check the following institutes:
  • Institute of Information Security. www. iisecurity.in
  • Institute of Forensic and Criminology, New Delhi
  • Central Forensic Laboratory, Kolkatta
  • National Institute of Criminology and forensic sciences, Delhi
  • Forensic Education. www.forensic.edu.in

All the very best.............
