Chemical engineers build a bridge between science and manufacturing , applying the principles of chemistry and engineering to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals. It is becoming necessary and imperative for humans to be able to manipulate the world around them in order to thrive and as we continue to thrive we have to learn how to undo the damage that we done in past years
. All industries such as biochemical clinical research, pharmaceuticals, petrochemical etc requires the services of chemical engineers. As India is becoming hub for clinical trials and other chemical processes because of cheaper infrastructure and human resource availability, the scope of opportunities for chemical engineers i India is equally good. Chemical engineers play multi faceted roles depending upon the kind of industries they are working with. Some of the work areas of chemical engineers are enlisted below:-
Production- The manufacture of chemicals requires continuous supervision. Production engineers are always answering questions such as if the product is of the specified purity; if the production rate is what it should be; if control,instruments are performing properly and if the process is as safe as possible.
Development- Chemical engineers look for ways to improve new or existing processes. The greening of much of the third world is due to a big reduction in the cost of amonia production, which made it possible for poorer nations to manufacture important fertilizer.
Design- Design engineers create the process that converts a raw material into final product. Chemists invented te many synthetic fibers we use today, but chemical engineers designed the plants that produce them at an affordable cost.
Management- Many chemical engineers are promoted to management positions. While less involved in technology , they make policy and business decisions, train new engineers and solve human rather than technical problems.
The chemical engineers can findemploymentwith:-
Petroleum, Chemical and Pharmaceutical companies
Healthcare industry
Design and construction, pulp and paper , petrochemicals, food processing ,specialtychemicals, microelectronics , electronic and advanced materials , polymers , business services , biotechnology ,environmentalhealth and safety industries.
Rubber, metal, cement, plastic andaerospaceindustries
Biotechnology Industry
Government agencies such as the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency
