The only field of engineering that makes an individual technically equipped while instilling efficient management techniques is industrial engineering. Industrial engineering is all about designing / managing methods and procedures to increase productivity , quality and efficiency in manufacturing process. The increasing complexity of industrial operations and the expansion of automated process in factories and offices is contributing to the demand for industrial engineers across the globe
. In today's troubled times , companies are trying to cut costs and improve efficiency. Most of them choose to recruit skilled industrial engineers. Industrial engineers design better methods and facilities for manufacturing and services. They study the various industrial processes involved , use mathematical models and computer simulation to devise new manufacturing systems that are more efficient. They assist the management in financial planning and cost analysis, design production systems as well as quality control procedures. They are responsible for finding out the best possible system for handling and storage of raw material , setting inventory size , as well as packaging and the physical distribution o goods and services. In addition to these responsibilities they are also concerned with worker safety and work environment. Industrial engineers determine the suitability of locations for factories depending on the best combination of raw material availability , transportation and costs. In actual plant design , an industrial engineer figure out which computer systems, machines and automated equipment's ill be used in the design and manufacturing process. They determine the most effective layout for computers, equipment's and offices such that it is flexible and easily maintainable. As an industrial engineer , they also develop wage and salary administration systems and job evaluation programme. One of major challenges an industrial engineer faces is automating a production process. They have to determine what aspect of production needs to be automated and if it makes financial sense.
