Hello My Dear Aspirant,

It seems that IT industry and software industry growth has mesmerised you to quite an extent and it is really a matter of appreciation that you have started thinking about your future career at a very very right time. I am glad that you have approached the right platform of CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance and clarification. I am sure that the experts here will be able to guide you.

Just about myself, I am an Educationist and have been into career counselling for more than seven years now and have counselled many students from diverse fields of engineering / finance / law /management, etc. I am also into teaching for some years now.

To become a software engineer, ideally you should get into the Science Stream. You should take up Science in your first year of college and when you pass out HSC that is 10+2 level, you can change to Engineering stream and get into Computer Engineering or IT engineering or Systems Engineering. These streams of Engineering are four year engineering courses after your HSC in Science.

Now, it is not necessary that every one should be a Bachelor of Engineering (IT or Computer or Systems) to get into a software programmer or engineer role. Apart from the B.Engg stream you can go for BCA course after your HSC Science stream. After BCA it is highly recommended that you pursue a post graduation course like MCA, which is a masters course from a recognised University in India.

Also you can go into commerce after your SSC/CBSE/ICSE and do MCA after doing BCom. Only thing you should remember is you should have Maths as a subject in 10+2 level compulsorily. You may also go to Science after your SSC/CBSE/ICSE and complete your BSc in the field or subject you like. In Science field also, after your HSC in Science you can continue with BSc and take up "Computer Science" as your BSC specialisation.

These are the ways through which you can get into software companies and IT field.

Institutes like APTECH or NIIT also have good courses in IT and software programming which can be done by any graduate however a science background gradaute is more equipped and competent to do the technical course.

All the Best.!
