Good observation I must say.
You are right. Mostly students shift to the CBSE board right after 10th.
The first and only reason being, entrance exam like NEET and other entrance exams are mostly set and conducted by the CBSE board. Hence students get a hang of the board pattern and syllabus.
The other reason can be that after 12th, especially in India, Universities follow the CBSE pattern and not the international board pattern.
