Hi Vishal,

Wish you a happy new year and hope this year brings you success and happiness.

Firstly I am unable to understand your query.
Secondly if I could interpret your query, are you trying to get into the mainstream IT firm or what is it that you want.

As per my understanding from your question, these days BPO is a hit amongst IT professionals. It is the place where a lot is learnt and experiences are gained.

And as you have mentioned, you have good knowledge in terms of hardware and systems and programming, I feel you are into the right kind of a job.

But probably you may be a little outdated or you are thinking of expanding your horizons.

In that case why dont you opt for an MCA course, which will give you an exposure to the latest developments in the software and programming zone.

MCA is a 2 years course and any graduate with knowledge of Math is eligible, but there is an entrance tests that one would have to clear.
Also these days MCA is also available as a correspondence course too, so you can learn and at the same time keep your job going too.

But as far as I am concerned, even if you have had backlogs, you need to look from now point of view. You are already an engineer, you have already got the fruits of your laziness. But the best part is your experience, which I am sure is incomparable to any other graduate, because the best experience is practical work and i am assuming you have picked it up during your work life.

Now instead of looking out for a degree or sitting back and brooding, just apply to companies, but before that, make a short summary of your strengths in terms of the area where you have been troubleshooting and how that experience will help you further in any job you take in the future.

Attach this short summary with your resume and send it across to companies and be confident. Dont sit back and think of what you have lost but now what you have achieved.

But the most important part in your field, is being updated. Mostly due to being busy with work, sometimes employees get lagging behind, due to the field being volatile and a lot of new developments in this field.

SO it would be good if you could find sometime and enroll yourself with certificate courses that would keep you abrested with the latest.

Though you are from the IT field, you are the best judge. Me being a layman and with my limited knowledge, I think you could opt for a C-DAC course. They have lots of certificate courses right from embedded technology to systems and hardware.

Hope this answers your query.

Wish you good luck.............
