Hello There!

Mass Communication is definitely an interesting, growing and dynamic field which gives ample of job opportunities to young generation. Mass Communication these days has become very important. Looking at your query for your daughter, I felt excited to offer my advice based on my experience.

Before I advice, please allow me to tell you a bit about myself in brief... I am an Educationist and an Economist! I have been into career counselling for more than seven years now and have counselled many students from the fields of commerce / management / law / finance / engineering, etc. I am also an author whose articles and research papers are published across India in reputed newspapers and magazines on various topics like finance, including career management, economics, etc for more than ten years now.

As mentioned above Mass Communication is definitely an exciting field as well it is challenging and dynamic. Considering your daughter is in Science stream, she can definitely get into mass communication after her HSC examinations. Eligibility for Mass Communication is any HSC stream or for post graduation in mass communication, any graduate. I am happy that your daughter has already made up her mind for her future career and have already chosen a career course for achieving her goal and ambition.

I would then recommend that she can get into BJMC immediately after completing her HSC and need to wait for graduation and then get into post graduation in Mass Communication. However after she completes her BJMC, I would strongly recommend her to go for a post graduation for a long term benefit, stability and growth.

If she joins a job after BJMC, she may do it but should always have the mental readiness to pursue a post graduation from a really reputed and good post graduate institute in mass communication. Symbiosis, Ranade Institute which are based in Pune are very famous and reputed.

In Delhi too there are good Institutes which offer Mass Communication courses both under graduate and post graduate. Delhi would also be a good destintion for this course.

I hope that your daughter one day becomes a good journalist / mass communication executive.

Best Luck to you as a parent and also your daughter for her bright future.

Dear Sir,

If your daughter is clear about pursuing a career in Mass Communication then she should directly enroll for a graduation degree. If she or you have any doubts about it, then she can try appearing for an aptitude test either online or otherwise and make sure that this is the right choice for her. Sometimes, we decide on a course based on a whim or a friends advice or maybe what we saw or read, so it is always advisable to be sure of our interest and aptitude for a chosen profession. For example, a person who doesn't like to interact much with people may not like to work in a field where he or she has to talk to people all day long.

Here is a link to a website which lists top 10 institutes in Delhi for studying mass communication. It lists institutes offering Pg diplomas/ graduation and Post graduation degrees.

After graduation your daughter can intern/ work for sometime and then decide on her specialization or she can go for post graduation immediately afterwards. It will mainly depend on her interests. These days as part of the degree program children do internships during the graduation itself which is helpful for them to gain work experience and to explore a specific field to pursue for specialization.

Best of luck to you and your daughter for selecting and getting admission in a course of her choice.

I am glad to know that your daughter has chosen her subject and career. After successful completion of her 12th class she should take admission in BJMC degree course. She should also complete PG level programme in mass comm. There are reputed Institutes/Universities are available in Delhi too to pursue this degree course. She should be extrovert, develop good communication and writing skills, command over English/Hindi and Regional language, develop good personality, calm, cool nerves, good judgement, good observer, sincere, hard working.Knowing foreign language is also desirable.Reading newspapers, books, computer friendly, interaction with sr.journalists and media personalities are also added advantage which shall be helpful in the professional career.

I wish all the best to her.

Earlier ,students who has good communication skills with literature background use to apply for J&mass communication degree, but in this competitive world before opting this subject do the self-analysis of your creativity, reading abilities , knowledge regarding current affairs and news , communication skills, should have articulation  skills about the most complex of issues ,how to handle delicate news , presentation skills and a great deal of patience..

So once the students is meeting above qualities can opt for this subject..
