My Daughter is in class X and want to query reg her opportunities

My daughter is studying class X at Chennai. I want her to pursue an integrated course that focusses on a specialisation right from 11th standard rather than pursuing 11th and 12th with traditional combinations. Are there any such courses in Tamilnadu?

Hello,

First of all, let me wish your daughter all the best for the board exams ahead. It's good that you are trying to plan and support your daughter in selecting her career.Well, after10th there are numerous programs that focusses on specialization or builds up a base for career ahead.

But before that I would like to suggest you to talk to her and find what are her interest and dreams. Talk to her regarding various career options available in science, commerce and arts field as well as disscuss with her about various off beat courses that offers specialization in a subject of study.

The traditional patterns of 10+2 have their own advantages in imbibing a strong foundations as well as opening up windows of opportunity after each level where as specialized courses have their own merits in providing orientation towards a career right from the scratch.

There are plenty of diploma offered by Ploytechniques, Institutes , All the State and central Govt. organisations. One can opt for diploma in any of the following right after 10th and later continue for degree in the same discipline such as :

Computer engineering, Electrical engineering, Chemical engineering, civil engineering, Automobiles , Architectural Assistantship Aeronautics, Bio technology, Agriculture, Heat power Technology, Machine tool Technology, Information technology, Instrumentation Technology, Fashion Design, Garment technology, Textile designing, Interior design and decoration, Plastic technology, Library and information science, production and industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, printing technology, auxiliary nurse and mid wifery(ANM) ,secretarial practice, applied arts, social work, accountancy etc.

These courses focus in making the students expert in their domain as well as builds the base for graduation for chosen domain. Students can pursuebachelors program or degree program in their area of specialsation as well as can take up a part time job. Alternatively, many students take up full time jobs and enroll in online anddistance programs also.

The job opportunities andcareer prospects are pretty certain but the biggest challenge is to identify the right program as per one's aptitude, personality and interests.I can very well understand your concerns as aparent , as most of us want our wardsto be settled soon with as little burden as possible. Most important thing at the end will be that our wards enjoy their career and life in addition to making a living. So, go for a career assessment and see her prosper in right direction.

Still Have queries? Feel Free to contact..

Good Luck..

Hello Dear Parent...

I am glad that as a parent you are directly invovled in looking and thinking and deciding a suitable career option for your daughter. Further you are at the right place on CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance and clarification. I would like to compliment you for both the aspects.

My colleague here Ms. Halima Sadiya has in a very excellent way told you the courses which can be done after SSC. However I would like to express my view point here...

Your thinking for an integrated course for your daughter is very nice, however having a basic 10+2 stage entry into specialised fields like engineering, medicine, etc are very much proven and beneficial in the long term for the student. There are courses which can be pursued after SCC as already told by Halima.

What I would suggest is before deciding the entry level for a career, a psychometric assessment test for your daughter. Dear Parent, it is very important to give importance to the likings, passion, abilities, understanding levels, personality, etc aspects before choosing and finalising a career. This psychometric test will tell you and your daughter for which career she is best suited taking into consideration all the above mentioned aspects. Always remember if one does a career taking into consideration the above aspects, he / she surely becomes successful and there is not need to turb back or look back ever in life, since the career chosen is not out of random choice but resulted from the choice of capability and ability.

One more integrated course which is there all over is BA LLB which is a five year integrated course in Law.

I hope you will take an informed decision and give importance to your daughter's natural capabilities and passion.

Best Luck
