Need a counseling related to English field

I had done my masters in English Literature. I want to know what are the options or fields available where I can divert my career apart from doing a PhD or into teaching field? I want to be an entrepreneur and wish to start a business of my own. I had also done a foreign language course and have an interest in TEFL in other countries or get a job in embassy . How do I plan that?

Technical writer: As a Masters in English, you have a lot of transferrable skills which can be applied in many fields. your understanding & analysis of writing will help you to organize technical material in a logical, condensed & coherent way.

You can also find positions like editing or critiquing. Students from business degrees and family business backgrounds themselves are sometimes reluctant to be an entrepreneur or join family business. But with your case, I am really impressed with you because you have the determination to choose entrepreneurship though being not from a business background. Lets talk about your interest in TEFL first. TEFL is very much important in non-native English speaking countries. As you may know, teaching English abroad is widely a recognised career these days and lots of foreign students take a year out, go to some non-western countries to teach English and then return back to their home countries. You may either go abroad to teach TEFL or probably set up a centre in India to do the same. If you set up a centre to teach English, you are becoming an entrepreneur. You could have tie ups with Cambridge to practice their curriculum and offer completed language certificates.

Alternatively you may also become an IELTS/TOEFL trainer and I am sure you will get a handful of students every year who are planning to study abroad and want to clear such tests in taking admissions. You can build up your own center for IELTS/TOEFL and have tie ups with leading educational consultancies in India. Students normally approach these educational consultancies to take their help with foreign university admission, clearance with English tests and visa processing help. If you sign partnerships with these universities, they could send the students coming to them to use your English coaching class on either IELTS/TOEFL tests. But please be informed, it is essential to become a certified trainer and you may contact www.ets.org for further details. Alternatively if you are certified by Cambridge it may help too. All these options are inclined to your TEFL course.

Alternatively you may also choose to set up a company that works for translation services. You may do the English translation orders for books written on other languages. This requires a little huge investment compared to setting up an English test coaching centre. The call is for you and I hope you would decide wisely. Hope this helps.
