Hello Mahesh,

The UPSC conducts Civil Services Examination (CSE), i.e. IAS exam every year for around 1000 vacancies collectively in various twenty-four services for the central government. The IAS/IFS/IPS are some of the higher posts along with other central services of Group A and B. These all services let you perform diverse and challenging functions at district and the above levels of administration.

Mahesh, you will be eligible after having completed your Graduation from a recognized Indian university. You can even have a Distant Degree from a recognized open university which is also certified by the Government as an eligibility for the appearance for the exam. The UPSC lets you appear for the exam even you if you are in the final year of your graduation provided the final result of your degree course will be in your hand at the time of Interview. So it’s quite possible to crack this exam at a younger age, for the candidates who are preparing for the IAS exam simultaneously with their academic study.

As we know that this exam runs for a one complete year, it requires one to remain in a continuous and persistent study for a longer period. Usually, the notification will come in the month of February and will be attempting your Preliminary exam in the month of May/June. After getting qualified for the Mains exam you have to write it probably in the October after which the Interviews are held in March/April for the candidates who pass the Mains stage. The final result will be out few days before the next Preliminary exam. If you fail at any of these stages, you have to reappear in the next Preliminary exam and cycle continues till you get success or your attempts get over.
