Dear Niksha 1993,
For becoming a dietician you first be a graduate in either Home Science (B.Sc Home Science)/ medicine/ science with chemistry or microbiology/ hotel management and catering. It is preferable that you should do B.Sc Home Science from any recognized university/college. After doing graduation you have to do M.Sc Home Science. from the specialisations available you have to opt for M.Sc Home Science Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics. The duration of this course is 2 years. After completing your Master's degree you have to do an internship in a multispeciality hospital recognised by Indian Dietetic Association supervised by a Registered Dietician. To become a registered dietician you should get yourself registered with the Indian Dietetic Association http://www.idaindia.com/. For this you must qualify in the registration exams. For becoming a established dietician you should possess 2 years of experience as a full time dietician in a multispeciality hospital of minimum 150 beds. You should also possess your internship certificate.
I hope this information is helpful for you
Best of luck

To become a dietician, you need to do Bsc in nutrition and dietetic course. Considering the market need, post graduation in the same field is recommended. You can opt for PG diploma course as well. After graduation, you can do 1 year Post Graduate Diploma (Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition (DDPHN).The one year DDPHN course has a compulsory three-month internship, working in a hospital under a qualified dietician. After doing Post graduation program, one can go in for course in dietics or in Food and Nutrition.
You can also do training courses organized by the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, which is a premier institute under Indian Council of Medical Research.
Minimum eligibility for pursuing BSc is 12th in Science stream (with physics, chemistry and home science/biology) with minimum 55%. There is no age bar for pursuing graduation or post-graduation in any age.
Hope I have answered your query. If you still have any questions, feel free to ask. I would be happy to guide you and help you take informed career decision.
With Best Wishes for bright career,
Apurva Kumar Pandya, PhD
