The insurance industry has grown immensely in the past few years and there is no dearth of opportunities in this sector. It offers variety of career opportunities for school drop outs and university graduates as well as professionals including actuaries, accountants, MBA's, marketing and sales professionals, risk managers, lawyers, customer service officers etc.

Employers of insurance professionals are reinsurance companies, insurance and reinsurance brokers, actuarial firms, health insurance firms, consulting firms, banks and financial institutions , micro finance companies , information technology companies managing underwriting, claims processing etc. Entry level position could be of management trainee, executive trainee, business analyst, business development executive, actuarial analyst, insurance analyst etc. depending on type of company and qualification.

Graduates and post graduates are eligible to take up actuarial examinations and are usually recruited by actuarial employers as actuarial trainee. The life insurance corporation of India recruits assistant administrative officers in generalist cadre from among candidates with a Bachelor's/ Master's degree from a recognized India or Foreign University who are recruited through a selection process comprising of a written examination and personal interview. The industry is becoming increasing more competitive and would require professionals to manage underwriting and actuarial work so as to create rates which are viable.
