With the increase in emerging infectious disease and antibiotic resistance, the threat ofbio terrorism, the rapid advances in biotechnology andnumerousenvironmental problems, microbiologists are in higher demand than ever. There are various areas of work of microbiologists such as :-






Research Assistant- These people provide technical support to conduct research working in a team with other scientists and research director.






Medical Microbiologist- study the role played by micro organism s in inflicting diseases in humans and animals. They research these organisms to find various ways to cure, prevent and occurrence of these diseases.






Industrial Microbiologists- work with industries manufacturing products like antibiotics, amino acids, beverages etc.




Marine Microbiologists- deals with micro organisms present in the ocean.




Agricultural Microbiologists- study plant diseases, the role of microorganisms in soil fertility and damage of farm products.




Sales or technical representatives- These people provide information about pharmaceuticals and other medical or scientific products to prospective customers.




There are employment opportunities in pharmaceutical companies in the area of formulation research, analytically development and clinical research and in new drug discovery.



Microbiologists can also find jobs in research and development laboratories of government and private hospitals, research organizations, pharmaceutical , food , beverage and chemical industries. Microbiologists can also opt for teaching profession after a Master's or PhD
