Hmmm

Interesting.

You being an IT graduate and a Post graduate student and at the same time looking for a government job. Awesome combination

But only I am unable to understand why are you opting for a PO job.
In-case you are interested in banks job, then you would have to undergo training first with Institute of banking and then appear for the bank exams and then start job in banks as a PO officer.

But with your IT qualification, you have the provision to enter any industry as per your choice.
Since every industry these days run only on systems the need for an IT professional is a must.

As an IT professional you could join an organization with any one of these designations depending on you experience:
  • Software Analysts
  • Software programmer
  • Software trainee
  • System Analysts
  • Troubleshooter
As an IT professional as I have earlier mentioned, you have opportunities at Pvt as well as government sectors.
Though the choice is yours. But in my opinion, in the private industry you would be exposed to many areas and issues, as well as growth in terms of positions and salary. While in government sector there would be less exposure and also growth.

As far as possible, my advice will be to begin with a private firm, earn the maximum, gain experiences and then for security and long term reasons join the private sector.
Moreover with your IT qualification, you can work in banks too as a systems in-charge.

As far as which is better between a PO and IT jobs, simply put there is no comparison between the two fields.
Both have their share of advantages and disadvantages.
The only thing I can tell you here is that if you are looking out for a part-time or a business opportunity, only IT can give you that opportunity.

Rest is your choice.

Wish you good luck.........
