A student ready for hardwork and thorough liking towards a subject can clear the exam accordingly.
Please see the area you have a liking towards. Generally subjects in ARTS are indepth and begins at the basic and easy to grasp. So students opt for ARTS. But if you have a liking towards Science and find it easier, go ahead with it.
There is no hard and fast rule in terms of stream and subjects.
Check the UPSC website for subjects and when time permits read a little on the subject listed. Understanding the subject can also help you choose a stream in future.
