I guess you are doing B.Tech in Mechanical which is one of the top branches in engineering. I do not know the placement scenario in your campus wherein you are doing your engineering. In fact aspirants and parents use to inquire the placement ratio to the institutions before taking admission. So your first job is to take help of your own institutional launching pad through placement department and get placed. I hope good brands including public sector must be visiting to your campus.

There are some criteria to build up your job strategies as below:

1. Try to be top scorer/ cgpa/tgpa and make an excellent project / dissertation report if it is worth then go for patent file with the consultation of your mentor / supervisor. Therefore you need to be more specfic in your specialization, why I am asking you to do this ? Reason is very clear that you will expert and confined to a TAG and then scope of employment becomes more and more----. If you want to be common for all even though you can give the justification of of your specialization as a crucial input.

2. Apart from this technical discussion one has to think about overall performance at B.Tech level and accordingly make your CV which is very important along with CV make a meaningful statement of purpose that must be stating your further goal and maintaining the coherency with your background. Better you take the help of any professional in building good CV and SOP.

3. Next step to choose the career in available fields:
1. Academic: Need higher degree (M.Tech with GATE and Ph.D)
2. Engineer in India (many trades are available including locomotives)
3. Offshore jobs attract people like you better get linked with genuine placement agent or directly apply to the recruiter they will manage entire journey.
4. Western countries like America, Europe have also opportunities but you have to qualify certain language tests, though it is not mandatory always.

While attempting any job you have to be very intelligent in showcasing your skill never be over curious, impatient, and lenient to get the job. Do not show your overconfidence need to be calculative and make balance effort to utilize the opportunity. At the same time do not write any bogus in your CV for example I know entire engineering and I could be able to learn everything.
