Hi, In India Civil Engineers can find job in Government departments, private and public sector industries, research and teaching institutions etc. Job opportunities for civil engineers are expected to increase as fast as the average for all jobs, although the construction industry is vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy. The government departments like public health, irrigation or public works offer ample job opportunities to civil engineering graduates. However, the probability of finding jobs in private sector is more as compared to government sector. Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones. After doing B.Tech, one can look for jobs in road projects, building work, consultancy firms, quality testing laboratories or housing societies. The experts say there is a high demand for experienced civil engineers in developed countries.
Civil engineers are employed in all the major construction projects carried out by the state or central government, the railways, private construction companies, military, engineering services, consultancy services etc. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching or they can open their own independent consultancy services.
According to experts, there is a high demand for experienced civil engineers in developed countries. Hundreds of civil engineers migrate from India to Canada, Australia and other countries for better career prospects.

According to an estimate, over 50,000 new jobs in the civil engineering sector are coming up every year across the country in the private sector. The Centre has announced to invest over Rs 50,000 crore in the infrastructure sector in the next few years.

As a civil engineer , one can start private pratice a a consultant or work with municioalities , government construction, regulatory agencies, transportation authorities, architects or urban planners. Others can seek employment in construction or manufacturing companies. As a civil engineer, one can also work for organizations like ONGC,Railways and various departments of state and central governments. Employment opportunities exist in the government sector including the railways, department of irrigation, public works, roads, harbours, muncipal corporations, telecommunication department etc. Civil engineers can alsdo work as a commissioned officer in the defense services, research organizations and laboratories. Those who are down to earth people may join various NGO working in water shade management and other areas. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for research and take up teaching. they also can join the lucrative Indian Engineering Services conducted by UPSC.
