India is the largest consumer of gold jewelry in the world. The jewelry industry in India is fully job oriented and there are openings for various categories of jobs.

The large jewelers firms offer both artisans jobs as well as jobs for designers.
One can also start his own jewelry house.

Jewelry designers may opt to freelance for both Indian and international markets.
With proper international contacts, export opportunities may be tapped on by jewelry designers.

The skilled jewelry designers can also start their own training schools.
Jewelry designer with relevant qualifications and experience may also take up teaching.

It is a purely creative field and to excel in this field an aspirant need to have certain personality traits and skills such as good eye hand coordination, practical skills with tools and materials, an understanding of metals and other materials, accuracy and attention detail, imagination, aesthetics sense , color sensitivity , interest in and awareness of new ideas, understanding and appreciation of prevalent tastes, customs, traditions and trends in various parts of the society and in different parts of the country and the world. They must possess the ability to communicate ideas to clients , the ability to take criticism and technical workmanship.
