Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us. To pursue a career as a Dietitian, one needs relevant qualification. This requires to have compulsorily studied either PCM- Physics, Chemistry, Biology at high school level or the PCMB - Physics, Chemistry, Math, Biology at the high school level. If you ahve studied a group that has no Biology/ Chemistry concentration then you cannot be able to study any course related to becoming a Dietician. So please ensure you definitely include Biology and Chemistry at your school level. You can study BSc food nutrition or Dietics to be able to start a career as a Dietitian.
Dietitian
With these degrees, one can pursue the following career routes as a Dietitian.
1. Patient care
You can choose to work at hospitals attending patients with physical ailments. There are hospitals who employ dietitians at their food nutrition and dietics department. As a Dietitian you can monitor the patients health and prescribe the right diet while at hospital and post discharge.

2. Public health nutrition
You can work for NGO's who monitor public health especially focusing on children. One good example will be the national NGO working for underprivileged children. These children suffer from low nutrition due to poverty or other circumstances and these NGO employ dietitian to monitor, prescribe and improve the health of these children.

3. Food service
You can be employed as a Food consultant at food service industries. Lots of organisations run food service for mass people and a dietitian is required to plot a plan for mass food service. You can also seek employment in hotels along with a chef to consult on food service and production.

4. Consultancy/ private practice
You can start your own private clinics to help people address their various issues related to nutrition. You can also work as a consultant for food industry that manufacture mass edible consumer products.

5. Food industry
As mentioned above you can be employed by food manufacturing industries like the Nestle, P&G, and other edible products. You can work full time instead of being a consultant who only comes in to occasionally advice.

6. Research and teaching
You can work as a nutrition researcher at private clinics or laboratories. You can also become a lecturer with a Masters degree or a Professor with a Doctorate degree to conduct teaching at colleges and universities.
7. Media/ marketing
You can get involved with media that advertises food products. Dietitians are required to write advertising scripts to help people understand the uses of the product. Dietitians can also work parallel along their full time work as a Dietitian.

8. Sports nutrition
You can work as a sport dietitian specialising to advice only people who are indulged in sports. You could always act as a personal dietitian for any sport personality or even a candidate engaged in sports. These dietitians focus on body building and high metabolism rate to help sport persons achieve efficiency.

Contemporary careers:
1. Beauty spas and clinics
As a Dietician you can also work at beauty clinics to advice people suffering from cosmetic problems that includes hair loss and skin issues.
2. Weight management clinics
As a dietitian you can also choose to work at weight management clinics like the VLCC, and private gyms to advise people on weight management
3. Bridal spas
You can work at bridal spas to exclusively focus on brides, to advice them on preparing them for their D-day.
4. Celebrity dietitian
You can work for celebrities as their personal dietitian. Most of the bollywood actors have a personal dietitian to help them stay toned. But to achieve such careers, one needs to have well established in their career.
5.Fashion-estersdietitian
You can also work as dietitian at fashion show or beauty pageants competition. These dietitians monitor and advice the contestants to keep them toned through out the competition.
6. At private gyms
You can also partner with private gyms to work as a Dietitian. You will work with people who come regularly at these gym to advice on their diet matters to stay fit.
