Wit more and more importance being given to accessories , the Indian footwear industry is undergoing a boom and is likely to grow swiftly in the next few years. As a footwear designer one may be asked to design footwear for various occassions and for diffrent clientele which may include man, women or children. Work opportunities for designers are increasing evry day and this is becoming a lucrative profession.

Footwear designing involves creating new designs keeping in mind the ever changing needs and preferences of customers and clients. In other industries , there is a scope of altering the finished product to suit the customer needs. But footwear stands out as an exception to this rule, because it is something that needs to fit the customer properly and there is no scope for alteration. Thus precision is utmost required. To be able to do so, one needs to have various skills such as ability to think spatially, have a creative bent of mind, be able to bring about a harmony between the aesthetics and utility are few of the prerequisities for a footwear designer. Other requirements include knowledge of fashion industry, knowledge of textile and material and good understanding of shoe engineering field.
