Meteorologists work in weather forecasting, atmospheric research , teaching and other kinds of applied meteorology such as air pollution control. They collect information on clouds, humidity, temperature and wind from ships, radar stations, satellites and weather stations. Thereafter they analyse and interpret the information using various charts, maps and computer models. Their work also involves forecasting the weather and climatic conditions for next few days. They also carry out research on processes taking place in the atmosphere and the causes of unusual weather and develop new instruments to measure and record changes in the atmosphere. Meteorologists can mainly find jobs in government sector . However some private companies also recruit meteorologists for environment pollution control. A meteorology degree qualifies an individual to perform many weather related jobs. A country's military operations such as troop movements, airplane flights, missile launches and ship movements rely on accurate weather information, some of the recruiters who hire meteorologists include:-
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Indian meteorology department, Indian Air Force, Space Application Centre, National Remote Sensing Agency, Defense research and Development organization and Indian Space Research organizations.
