Indian companies are growing substantially on global market and Indian market is playing a significant part as a source of huge success for multinational companies; it becomes important that there is no shortage of professionals who can subdue the language barrier and alleviate fluent communication for proper transactions related to business. There is a huge demand for experts of a foreign language with a good understanding of cultures. Foreign language as a career is emerging as a successful career path and those who are willing to explore it have numerous opportunities to work in a multinational company and multilateral organizations. Furthermore, language skills function as an essential attribute in a workplace and help to move ahead in one’s career.

 

When to start

There are several stages where one can begin learning a new language. Some schools provide the option to learn a new language to its students and hence some start learning a foreign language at the school level, one can also start learning after school by opting the desired language as majors in their graduation. Apart from this one can also go for any short term course or diploma course as they require less duration and are designed in a more concise manner. There are a few universities that also offers masters to become an expert in a specific language.

Learning a foreign language along with the English language opens a wide range of opportunities and also offers an attractive salary. If you have set your mind to pursue a foreign language then be ready to work for long hours with strong concentration because learning a new language is not an easy task.  

 

Fee Structure

Learning a foreign language is quite affordable in central universities such as the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru  University whereas Max Muller Bhavan and or Inlingua charge considerably higher. The fee also varies with different languages and intake of students. Korean, Japanese and Chinese language are pretty tough to learn but also growing high in demand, these languages are available at some limited institutes at a high cost. Arabic and Persian are available at most national universities at low cost.

 

Scholarships and funding

The university of Delhi provides a scholarship to the students on the basis of merit and also to those who scores highest in university exams. Jawaharlal Nehru University provides an appealing scholarship to those studying a foreign language there. JNU has an eminent student exchange program with many universities and it provides the chance to study in foreign universities to the students learning a foreign language for a specific period of time. Two scholarships are provided by Max Mueller Bhavan at its centers in India to students of advanced level learning. Those 2 selected students are also offered a chance to go to Germany and observe the society and culture to learn the language.

 

Job Prospects

Having proficiency and academic qualification from a well-reputed university opens a wide range of options in several sectors such as entertainment industry, mass communication and public relations, embassies, tourism, translation and interpretation, diplomatic service and much more. Several corporate bodies also require professionals with good communication skills in Spanish, German, French, Russian, Korean etc. Many international organizations such as RbI (Reserve Bank of India), UNO (United Nation Organization, FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) also have vacant positions for professional with skills in foreign language.

Professionals of foreign language are capable of earning a handsome salary depending on their proficiency and communication skills. Working in a multinational company in the marketing department or as a PR one can earn from 3.6 to 6LPA.Translator gets paid according to translations per page. They can earn from Rs.250-500 per page, or even more depending on their proficiency in the language. A teacher gets paid around 1.8L-3LPA. There are a lot of other position that pays pretty too.

 

Conclusion

There is a huge market available for foreign language expert in India and very few people opting for foreign language as career path causing deficiency for such experts especially for Chinese, Japanese and Korean language. Therefore if you find yourself interested in learning a new language just go for it without giving it a second chance.
