Civil engineers handle all construction work. Structural engineering ,water management engineering , highway engineering and environmental engineeringare some of the areas civil engineers specialize in, Structural engineers are mainly responsible for designing structures that support their own weight and loads they carry and that resist wind, temperature, earthquake and many other forces. Bridges, buildings, offshore structures, space platforms, amusement park rides and many other kinds of projects are included within this exciting discipline, Environmental engineers translate physical , chemical and biological processes into systems to destroy toxic substances, remove pollutants from water, reduce non-hazardous solid waste volumes, eliminate contaminates from the air and develop groundwater supplies

. Geotechnical engineers are responsible for developing projects below ground such as tunnels, foundations and offshore platforms. They analyze the properties of soil and rock that support and affect the behavior of these structures. as civil engineer one can start private practice as consultant or work with muncipilaties, government construction , regulatory agencies , transportation authorities, architects or urban planners. They can also work as commissioned officer in the defense services, research organizations and laboratories. They have an option to join Indian Engineering service.
