There are many myths about the work of a journalist. The common myths have been described below:

1. Many people assume that journalists have to work twenty four hours of the day. That is not the case and of course not possible. But since we see them reporting even at late night hours and then day also, we assume that they are working all the time. The timings have been assigned to them and they have to work in shifts. This way they only work at their shift timings and not beyond that.

2. Journalists are assumed to be only reporting the social and political news and therefore people think that they should have sound knowledge of politics which is not the case. The reporters work in as many fields as there are on this earth. They are supposed to work in all those fields as per their area of expertise. They need to do their research well, that's all. They can learn about the event during their research.

3. Though journalists usually get hired from journalism schools but it is not a mandatory criteria. There are so many examples of successful journalists who have not come from journalism background. This profession requires right amount of passion and dedication. The educational background may not matter in every case. Therefore you can try for this profession even though you do not come from journalism studies.

4. Many people assume that journalists do not get hefty salaries. This was previously the case but not true anymore, With so much involvement of the private sector they are getting huge sums of money in their salaries. This profession is very challenging specially at the initial stages but once you are established as a reporter you will get huge amounts of money. This is often an encouraging factor for the aspiring journalists and rightly so, they should get the reward for all the hard work that they do.

Therefore there are quite a few myths about reporters work.
