Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis , treatment and prevention of diseases of the eye and visual system. The eye, its surrounding structures and the visual pathways may be affected by a great variety of clinical conditions. Their successful management depends on the ophthalmology team combining of the diagnostic and therapeutic abilities of a physician and technical skills of a micro surgeons with an understanding of the whole patient. Ophthalmology integrates with many other branches medicine. Ophthalmologists can handle basic eye care situations including eye exams, providing prescriptions for eye wear and diagnosis and testing for visual disorders
. Since they have more training and education in eye disorders, diseases that affect vision, neuro-pathways and plenty of other areas that makes them more capable at handling issues such as cataracts, corneal diseases, retinal detachment and many other surgical procedures. Ophthalmologists usually see patients of all ages and a wide range of vision conditions , but some specialize in one or several areas that allow them to work in certain environment. Pediatric ophthalmologists are trained in pediatrics and focus their work on children and infant vision. Lasik surgeons are specialist in cornea, retina and refractive surgery. Neuro ophthalmologists are specialist in neurology, optic pathways and trauma.
