Hi,

There are many myths about Petroleum engineering and their work. Some of them are as follows-

1) The most common myth is that now a days students are not opting for Petroleum engineering.
This is not so because now a days more and more children are opting for Petroleum engineering. The main reason being is that they get to earn good salaries.

2) There is a great shortage of oil technicians.
Wrong, rather the number of oil technicians is growing because of rapid growth in the number of oil companies in India and abroad.

3)The resource is depleting and so the industries will face downfall of oil industry.
Petroleum industry is going to increase from now on .In the next eight years it is going to boom.

4)Too much water quantity is used during fracturing so the water resource is getting affected.
No this is not true.Water is used but in controlled amount.

5)Hydraulic fracturing causes earth tremors.
High quality machines are used in the Petroleum industry so care is taken to avoid such happenings.

6)Water gets contaminated.
Due to drilling operations for extracting oil the myth seems to be justified but the reality is some thing else.Utmost care is taken to avoid such happenings.

7) Petroleum engineering jobs do not have a bright future.
Petroleum Engineering jobs have a bright future. They offer new graduates exciting careers in the energy industry.Petroleum employment will grow as oil and gas projects accelerate world wide.

Petroleum jobs will increase 18% over the next 8 years, which is far faster than the average growth expected in other occupations.

Petroleum engineering jobs will support major new projects. The oil and natural gas that the world consumes today was much easier to find and bring to the market than future supplies will be.The new oil and gas supplies of tomorrow will come from technologically challenging and capital intensive projects in deep marine environments offshore, ecologically sensitive onshore areas and even in extreme climatic conditions in the arctic .These projects will require a large well educated work force at a time when present workers are reaching retirement age.

I think my answer must have cleared all your myths.

ALL THE BEST!!!!!!
