The key areas and work responsibilities of biotechnologists are as under :-

Mediacl Biotechnology
Medical biotechnology focuses on creating various medicines, vaccines and diagnostic tools.

Seri- Biotechnology -
Seri biotechnology involves application of genetic engineerig and research in the field of sericulture to improve quality and rearing of silkworms for production of silk

Microbial Biotechnology -
Microbial biotechnology deals with improving microbial agents for biological controlof animal and plant pests and development of new microbial agents for bioremediation of soil and water contaminated by agricultural runoff.

Agricultural Biotechnology


is applied to agricultural processes. Biotrecdhnolgists specilased in this branch are involved in the improvement of agriculure output by improving qaulity of seeds, insecticides and fertilizers.

Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology
Aqua biotechnolgists are involved in undersatnding and improving genetic, nutritioal and natural fuinction, imrpving the health , reproduction , development , growth and overall well being of aquatic organisms.

Food Biotechnology
here biotechnologists work to induce cattle to grow faster to produce new enzymes for making cheese. They work on taking care of crop diseases and improving the nutritional value of existing foods.

Environmental Biotechnology

The work of biotechnologist in this field involves treatment of industrial waste to recycling of sewage sludge.

Biotechnologists can work with pharmaceutical companies, chemical, griculture andallied industries, research organizations. Some of the companies that hire biotechnologists are hindustan lever ltd,thapar group, tata engineering research institute etc.
