Below is the list of the main work areas on which the footwear designers work most of the times:

1. The footwear designers work on the designing. This is the most important part of their work. They prepare the rough designs on the paper and get the approvals of the management and the clients before finalizing the design. Once the client is ready to go with a particular design, they have to create the final design this time on the computer software and again get the approvals before the design goes to the manufacturing.

2. The manufacturing of the footwear is also an important task. The footwear designers have to stay in regular touch with the production and manufacturing technology engineers so that they can work together in the production scenario. They have to coordinate with the technicians and the engineers so that the design gets manufactured meeting its desired specifications. The quality of the footwear has also to be maintained and therefore they need to coordinate with the quality assurance team as well.

3. The footwear designers have to coordinate with the sales and marketing team and make sure that the footwear reaches its market. The marketing plans cannot be devised without the help of the footwear designers as they are the ones who best understand the design and therefore they can help in predicting the right target segment for the footwear. Apart from that, they have to visit the stores and also attend the important events so that they can showcase their work in front of other people including other footwear designers and hence grow their network which would be helpful in reaching to more people.

Therefore the footwear designers work on a number of things during their typical work day and thus have to learn the important skills so that they can excel in this profession. Also, the above mentioned areas may also vary as per the company or the profile. Some footwear designers may spend more time in designing than doing the other tasks. The information provided here is in the generalized terms.
